Former NFL Scout with the Carolina Panthers, Indianapolis Colts, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Jack Bushofsky is retiring as Carolina’s director of player personnel when his conract expires next month. Bushofsky joined the Panthers’ scouting department in 1994 and moved into his current role in 1998.
“I just think the time has come,” Bushofsky said Tuesday. “I have been away from home so much and this allows me more time with my family.” He has overseen Carolina’s most productive drafts – 2001 when Pro Bowl kick returner Steve Smith and defensive tackle Kris Jenkins were selected, and last season when defensive end Julius Peppers was picked.
“Jack has been a valuable member of the Panthers scouting staff since coming to Carolina,” general manger Marty Hurney said. “He has provided good leadership for our scouts and has been a tireless worker whose skills have been reflected.”
Tony Softli, director of college scouting since 2000, will be in control of the Panthers drafts while Mark Koncz will be the director of pro scouting. Bushofsky joined the NFL in 1979 as a college and pro personnel scout for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and was named the Colts player personnel director in 1983. A native of Pittsburgh, Pa., he served in the United States Marines and attended Austin Peay University where he earned Little All-American honors at guard and linebacker.
