Draft Rewind 2006 – Antonio Cromartie – New York Jets

What Ourlads NFL Scouting Services said about ANTONIO CROMARTIE: Florida State, 6021 208 4.47. Junior eligible. Started only one game at Florida State. Tore his ACL in spring of 2005. Tape evaluation was on 2004 games. Leroy Smith started ahead of him, but he was awarded first-team all-ACC in 2004. Lined up deep on kickoff returns. In the 2004 Gator Bowl he covered Chris Henry, the third round draft choice for the Bengals. Matched up and could run with a tall vertical receiver. Can turn and run. Demonstrates good ball skills. Good body control, smooth and fluid, no wasted motions despite his size. Can close on the ball in the air. Gets stuck on  a blocker at times. Needs more overall physical tackling strength and strength to shed blocker. Plays on punt coverage teams. Out of control and doesn’t break down as a tackler at times. Drag down tackler. Size and arm length to jam a receiver. Plays balanced with no lunge or overextension. Loose hips for a big man. Good ball reactions, body position to knock the ball down. Ability to adjust to ball in air. Has deep closing speed and range. Practiced late in the year and looked smooth and athletic. Will be rusty with the layoff, but the risks are lower than the reward of a matchup corner. Second round. (A-33 3/4, H-10 1/2, SS-3.89, VJ-38). Originally drafted by San Diego.
