Draft Rewind 2012 – Dont’a Hightower – New England Patriots

What Ourlads NFL Scouting Services said about DONT’A HIGHTOWER: Alabama, 6022 265 4.68. Junior entry. Two-time captain. Three-year starter who is a physical run stuffer with strength and ability to shed quickly at the point of attack. Good penetration on a blitz. Disruptive player in the offensive backfield. Thick upper and lower body. Plays defensive end in pass rush situations. Will step over blocks. Good agility in traffic. Athletic, rugged, and hardnosed. Disruptive player who comes up with big plays at key times in the game. If he doesn’t get a sack, he causes a hurry or untimely pass. Plays square to the line of scrimmage with his eyes up, butt down, and in a bent knee position. Protects himself against low cut blocks with a good use of hands. Has the speed and burst to the perimeter to make a play. A three-down linebacker who can either drop into coverage or rush the passer from the edge. A good athlete who fills the inside running lanes with gusto. If he doesn’t make the tackle, he constricts the hole. Good pass coverage savvy when he drops into coverage. Not always a wrap tackler. Throws his body at ball carrier. Plays on the punt coverage team. Only played four games in 2009 after he tore his left ACL. 2011 stats: 85 tackles, 11 TFL, 4 sacks, 3 PBU, 1 INT. OSR:4/16. First/second round. (A-32 5/8, H-9 3/4, BP-DNP, SS-4.64).
