Draft Rewind 2012 – Peter Konz – Atlanta Falcons

What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about Peter Konz: Wisconsin, 6050 314 5.10. Junior entry. Three-year starter. Was red-shirted in 2008. Missed the last three games of the regular season with a left ankle sprain. Played in the Rose Bowl but looked rusty and was on the ground more than a few times losing his balance. Konz plays the center position with aggressiveness, technique, and a complete understanding of the play and blocking scheme. He plays with pride and enthusiasm. He is quick out of his stance and hits through the defender with good body tilt and base. He is consistent on both the conventional and shotgun snap. Plays with his head on a swivel with good blitz awareness. Physical on blitz pickups and down blocks. He locks on and drives the defender in the direction of his angle. Can turn, push, and ride the defensive lineman. Good combo off to linebackers. Consumes inside pressure. A zone blocking center who takes good steps and angles to sting his target. Keeps his shoulders and hips square in pass protection and works to sustain his blocks. Creates seams and can redirect. Good awareness to help his guards. Can pull and block the perimeter. Patient to handle inside twist stunts. Locks on and runs his feet. Tall centers concern us, but he can bend and is flexible. Has an injury history where he has missed time in parts of the last three seasons. Did not work out at Combine due to ankle injury. First/second round. (A-33, H-9 1/4, BP-18, 10-DNP).
