Draft Rewind 2013 – Tyrann Mathieu – Arizona Cardinals

What Ourlads NFL Scouting Services said about TYRANN MATHIEU: LSU, 5086 186 4.49. Junior entry. One-year starter. An exceptionally active and confident nickel or fourth corner. Physical playmaking type player with blitz ability. A contact player despite his size. Excellent change of direction and quick feet. Electric when returning punts. Sudden stop and start quickness. Ball of energy. Covers punts as a gunner. Excellent football instincts and ball skills. Removed from the LSU team for repeatedly flunking illegal substance tests. Shorter than ideal for an outside corner. In 2011 was beat for two touchdowns by Da’Rick Rodgers, wide receiver from Tennessee. Will struggle in match-ups with bigger and more physical receivers. Will only be limited by his off field indiscretions. 2011 stats: 76 T, 9 PBU, 2 INT, 6 FF, 5 FR. BTR:left 4.63, right 4.83. OSR:25/35. Third/fourth round. (A- 31 1/8, H-9 3/8, VJ-34, SS-4.14). CAMP NOTES: Tyrann Mathieu has made the move from corner to free safety. Free safety makes sense with his high level instincts and ball skills. The toughest thing for Mathieu to master in OTAs is his voice, yelling out coverages and checks. He is also getting work at the nickel corner position. The former Tiger has impressed the coaching staff with his ability to learn quickly. Special teams’ coverage and returns are also in his future.
