Draft Rewind 2003 – Carson Palmer – Arizona Cardinals

What Ourlads’ NFL Scouting Services said about CARSON PALMER: Southern Cal, 6050 230 4.70. Heisman Trophy winner. Starter since late in his freshman year. Redshirted in ’99 after breaking his collarbone early in the year. Was inconsistent early in his career but had an excellent senior season — was particularly strong down the stretch. Had a solid Senior Bowl performance. An athletic quarterback with excellent size. Sets quickly with short steps in his dropback. Stays on his toes in the pocket. A little jittery at times with his feet. Has the quickness to slide away from pressure but looks to escape too soon at times — sometimes runs himself into trouble. Not a dynamic runner but can make yardage when he escapes. Generally effective throwing on the move but forces some balls when pressured — sometimes makes bad decisions when the play breaks down. Good rhythm passer in the pocket. Gets rid of the ball quickly with a compact, snappy, overhand release. Very accurate. Does a nice job of hitting backs in stride on swing passes. Shows solid arm strength. Throws a tight spiral. Drills the ball on slants very well — good at hitting receivers in stride so they can make a play with the ball after the catch. Has deep touch. Throws fades well. Carries out his fakes nicely. Does a good job of drawing in the rush on screen passes. Quality prospect who should go very high in the draft. Originally drafted by Cincinnati.
