Brian Orakpo Signs with Titans

What?

OLB Brian Orakpo SIGNED by Tennessee

Why?

The Ray Horton-led defense lacked presence from the outside in 2014.  While they could look to the draft for pass rush upgrades, bringing in a veteran presence with proven success could go a long way as they chase after the Colts in the AFC South.  When healthy, Orakpo has proven to be a steady presence against the run and pass.  In a multi-front scheme like the one Tennessee runs, his value is enormous.  If he can stay on the field, Tennessee’s 27th ranked defense immediately becomes better.

What’s Next?

I’m curious to see how Tennessee approaches their first two picks.  Part of me thinks they will try to surround Zach Mettenberger with more talent at WR but I also think Horton is trying to build top tier defense which won’t happen without more top tier talent.  The Orakpo signing may cause them to steer clear from an edge rushing talent at #2 overall, but the thought of Leonard Williams grouped with what they have in their front seven gets me thinking this could be a dominant unit.
