12/21/15 Bowl Game Prospects

by Dave Syvertsen, Ourlads’ Draft Analyst

WESTERN KENTUCKY

#12 QB Brandon Doughty – 6’3/220

Sixth year senior. Redshirt in 2010, knee injury cut his 2011 short 3 games in to the season, and he was a backup in 2012. Received a 6th year from the NCAA and opted to come back for 2015. Statistically he has had one of the best passing careers in history. I’m not crazy about him. I don’t think he has the arm. Those that back him will talk about the quick release, pinpoint accuracy and command of the offense. The pre-draft process will be huge for him but I think a 4th round grade is a long shot.

#83 TE Tyler Higbee – 6’6/250

Fifth year senior. Wasn’t much of a thought prior to 2015 but he had a big year. Seeing that and considering his size, he will intrigue a lot of people. I wouldn’t call him a great athlete by any means but he has some long stride speed, making him a tough matchup. He is an excellent blocker in space and if he can be put in to the right role within the right system, he’ll be a player. I question his every down ability because he gets beat up at the point of attack too easily but that can change in time.

Other Notables:

#21 WR Jared Dangerfield – 6’3/200
#2 Antwane Grant – 6’1/195
#30 Prince Charles Iworah – 5’11/193

SOUTH FLORIDA

#2 SS Jamie Byrd – 5’11/185

JUCO transfer. Has been the best defender on this team for both of his two seasons on the Bulls. Undersized strong safety that will make plays all over the field. They do a lot with him. Very effective blitzer that can react in a blink and get his hat on the ball. Good tackler. I haven’t seen him in many challenging roles as a cover man but I think there is enough elsewhere in his game to warrant a late round consideration.

Other Notables:

#64 LG Thor Jozwiak – 6’4/318
#66 Brynjar Gudmundsson – 6’4/305
