What Ourlads NFL Scouting Services said about JAMEIS WINSTON: Florida State, 6036, 231, 4.97. Underclass entry. Two-year starter and 2014 Heisman Trophy winner played in an NFL friendly system and should readily adapt to a Sunday pro style offense. He has shown the ability to win from the pocket, change protection at the line of scrimmage, and hit his “hot” receivers. A gym rat who studies film intently and processes information quickly on the field. Accurate in the pocket or when he rolls away from chaos. Demonstrated grit last fall after playing with a freshman center who consistently let a blitz defender in his face while attempting to throw. Winston stayed in the pocket and got the ball off with focus and accuracy. He carries the ball high with very little wasted motion. Throws with a good base with his feet under him. Good downfield vertical accuracy. He can survey the field and throw with good anticipation. The big right hander has the arm strength to throw the tough opposite hash mark out or the deep 18-yard comeback. Even when falling back he keeps his eyes down the field and throws with velocity and accuracy. Has poise under pressure. The ball jumps out of his hand. Has good touch when throwing over linebackers. When receivers are covered and he doesn’t throw the ball away, Winston runs with strength. He is not easy to tackle. Has vision, feel, and natural running ability. He can extend the play and make something positive happen. Quick enough to side step a pass rusher and throw off balance with accuracy. The Hueytown, AL native can win from the pocket. He doesn’t see the rush, he feels it. Can rocket the ball through a tight window in the red zone. Throws his receivers open. Quarterbacks lead in different ways. Winston is charismatic, a great competitor, brash, and backs up his swagger with big play capability. He inspires victory by his preparation. The Seminoles under Winston’s leadership were 8-0 in games decided by 7 or fewer points. He lost only one game as a starter. The team was 26-1. When he made mistakes, the team never felt they were out of a game. Winston proved time and again he was a clutch third down player who could move the ball with the game on the line. He is a tough kid who will play injured. His off the field decisions are in sharp contrast to what he does on the field. Winston is a risk taker, who by all reports, left his dumb off field choices in the rearview mirror. 2014 stats: 305/467, 3907 yds, 65.3%, 25 TD, 18 INT. Ball velocity 55 mph. OSR:11/14. First round. (A-32, H-9 3/8, SS-4.36, VJ-28.5).
