2013 Draft Rewind – Sheldon Richardson – New York Jets

What Ourlads NFL Scouting Services said about SHELDON RICHARDSON: Missouri, 6024 294 5.02. Junior entry who started 13 games out of a possible 24. Junior college transfer from College of Sequoias (CA). Good body conformation for an interior defensive tackle. Instinctive with the ability to redirect quickly. Lightning quick up the field. Doesn’t stay blocked. Experience dropping into coverage. Plays well on his feet. Good instincts and feel for the game. Explosive initial quickness to control the blocker. A good effort player who can run in pursuit or skate down the line and stuff the run. Rare production. He registered 14 tackles and a sack versus the Alabama offensive line. Long arms and thick lower body. Can play inside or outside in a 4-3 or 3-4 scheme. Excellent lateral quickness. May thrive as a 3-technique in a 4-man front. Can make himself small to penetrate a gap and get up the field. Bench presses off a low cut block and shows a good burst to close on play. Draws double teams on a regular basis. A smart player who holds up on a hit to save a roughing penalty. Takes good downfield pursuit angles. Good awareness of backs on screens and check downs. Athletic enough in the open field to tackle South Carolina’s Marcus Lattimore. Recovers well on the blitz and sprints to sideline to make a play. Explosive wrap around on twist stunts. As active as a linebacker in his play. A football player who is always a presence on the field. Plays with violent hands. Will slip off a tackle at times when he’s trying to rake and strip a quarterback. Played well as a sophomore when given an opportunity. Only played a year and a half for the Tigers. Always struggled with the academic end of school. Suspended for Syracuse game for reportedly not following through on team rules for missing classes. Projects to be a first year starter that should provide impact play. 2012 stats: 75 T, 10.5 TFL, 4 sacks, 3 BB, 3 FF, 2 FR. Edge speed:left 1.98, right 1.93. OSR:3/ 17. First round. (A-34 1/2, H-10 1/2, BP-30, 10-1.76).
