2013 Draft Rewind – Johnthan Banks – Tampa Bay Buccaneers

What Ourlads NFL Scouting Services said about JOHNTHAN BANKS: Mississippi State, 6020 185 4.59. A three-year starter at corner and seven games at free safety as a freshman. Jim Thorpe Award winner as the best defensive back in college. A slender wiry competitive corner with long arms. Regularly goes for the strip when tackling a ball carrier. Active in run support. Good length for the position. Good hands and ball skills. Had sixteen career interceptions. Has experience at both press and off coverage. Can blitz off the edge and disrupt backfield action. Needs more upper body strength to play with the big physical NFL wide receivers. Banks has improved his game every year. He did not run a great forty time for the watch, but one drill he excelled at is the backpedal, turn, and run drill (a game type drill) where he ran a 4.32 turning to his left and 4.44 turning to his right. His times indicate good foot quickness, change of direction, and hip flexibility. Talent to contribute early. Will contribute on special teams’ coverage and as a backup type punt returner. 2012 stats: 63 T, 7 PBU, 4 INT, 1 FF, 1 FR. BTR:left 4.32, right 4.44. OSR:33/35. First/ second round. (A-33 7/8, H-9 1/4, VJ-34, SS-4.27).
