Draft Rewind 2012 – David Wilson – New York Giants

What Ourlads NFL Scouting Services said about DAVID WILSON: Virginia Tech, 5095 206 4.49. Junior entry. Sixteen game starter who has the leg power to move the pile or the speed to run wide. An emotional and athletic runner who drives his legs on contact. Lines up at 9 1/ 2 yards deep and slashes downhill. Question inside vision and running skills at times. His running instincts and feel for his blockers are inconsistent. Doesn’t always make those tough short yardage runs where he accepts one or two yards. He tries to bounce the ball wide. Sometimes it works and other times it doesn’t. On Sundays it doesn’t work because of the speed of the defenders. Has an explosive breakaway speed element to his game. He doesn’t go down easily with his shiftiness in the open field. Will reach and extend for an off target pass on check downs. Lines up in back sets or at ‘Z’ receiver at times. A better athlete than instinctive running back. Question intelligence as a runner and feel for his blockers. Has acceleration through the hole. Has the speed to get the corner. Can make defender miss. Gets yards after initial contact. Needs work and technique as a pass blocker, careless with the ball. He puts it on the ground sometimes. Will contribute as a kickoff return specialist. A backup rotate back with skills. 2011 stats: 1709 yds, 5.94 ypc, 9 TDs, 22 receptions, 129 yds, 1 TD. Second round. (A-30 1/4, H-9 3/8, BP-DNP, SS-4.12).
