Draft Rewind 2014: Jarvis Landry, Miami Dolphins

What Ourlads NFL Scouting Services said about JARVIS LANDRY: LSU, 5114 205 4.61. Junior entry. Started 12 games in his career including 10 in 2013. Snatches the ball away from the frame of his body. A physical receiver who can take body contact. Huge hands. Strong at the ball. Has a defender’s mentality when covering on special teams. NFL ability to control his body in the air when making a catch. Will reach and extend for the ball. A pure hands catcher who runs good routes. Explosive in his movement. Breaks tackles like a running back after catch. Effective reading coverages and good field awareness. Good blocker in running plays. Improved his 40-time during the LSU pro day where he ran a 4.61. He ran at Indy on a tweaked hamstring. Plays better and is smoother than he tests out in shorts and a t-shirt. Can make the big time, high point pluck catches, but was inconsistent during the year getting off press coverage. Needs to improve his footwork in and out of his cuts. Will contribute on special teams’ coverage. 2013 stats: 77-1193, 15.5 ypr, 10 TD. OSR:46/46. Third/fourth round. (A-31 3/4, H-10 1/4, VJ-30.5, SS-4.63).

From the 2014 Ourlads’ Review: Landry fell in the draft because of his poor 40 time of 4.61. In rookie camp the former LSU receiver got separation, found the cavities in the defense, and plucked the ball out away from his body. The competition level will elevate in OTAs and Landry’s ability to get open will be a challenge.
