Chicago Bears 2011 NFL Undrafted Free Agents

Notable Undrafted Free Agents:

Andre Smith, Virginia Tech 6042 271 4.80

Started 25 games in his career. Was Tyrod Taylor’s favorite red zone target, catching five touchdown passes. A big target with soft hands. Lines up at H-back, wing back, slot, and at the conventional tight end position next to the tackle. Can adjust and block on the run. Looks the part as the classic long-armed and big handed receiver. However he has some technique flaws that need to be cleaned up including ending up on the ground on base blocks. Okay initially into block, but he falls off by overextending and losing his balance as a waist bender. At times he looks like a stick and stay blocker (would like to see him finish better). Not a killer on the down angle blocks or double teams. Doesn’t bring his feet. Has all the tools of the trade if he has the desire to improve his blocking.

Dane Sanzenbacher, Ohio State 5113 182 4.56

Two-year starter who is consistent and dependable catching the ball. Quick in and out of cuts. A slot type receiver who catches the ball out away from the frame of his body. Caught five passes for 62 yards as a late addition to the North Senior Bowl roster. An above average athlete who can run routes off motion. A tough and competitive guy who will concentrate and catch the ball over the middle. Good body control. A willing blocker who is aggressive and can adjust on the move. Holds the ball on contact over the middle. Plays with good intensity.

Dom DeCicco, Pittsburgh 6026 232 4.65

Three-year starter. Played the hybrid strong safety/outside  linebacker position. Productive. Makes all the calls for the  defense. Good instincts. Has 12 interceptions over the past  three years. Projects as a Will linebacker in a 4-3 system. Will  contribute on special teams and as a nickel linebacker. Active.  Will need to get stronger to play the run. Has the quickness to  slip blockers. Not a take on guy. Developmental outside linebacker.  2010 stats: 85 tackles, 4 TFL, 5 INTs.

Ryan Jones,  NW Missouri St. 5111 197 4.45

Two-year starter. Played in 56 games in four years, including  playoffs. A cover-two press corner. Runs the route for the  receivers. Good short area quickness. Competitive in drills at  the Texas versus Nation game. Will contribute on special teams  Blocked three kicks as a freshman. Good instincts and quick  feet. A cover corner who needs work on his backpedal. Bearcats  use a bail technique. A developmental player who has a chance  to make a roster. Has the size and speed. Skills are inconsistent. 2010  stats: 56 tackles, 6 TFL, 6 INTs, 13 PBU, 19 PD, 1 blocked kick.

Alex Linnenkohl,  Oregon State 6016 304 5.37

Three-year starter who does both the conventional and shotgun  snaps. A marginal athlete who plays hard but high for his size.  Plays with a good power base. Will get pushed back if he gets  too high. Good awareness who gets inside push. Locks up the  linebacker on the second level. Stays after the target and runs his  feet on contact. Flashes some punch and hand placement. Consistent  and mentally tough in his play. Plays with attitude and aggressiveness  to cut off or position a defender. Arms shorter than ideal.

Kyle Adams, Purdue 6045 257 4.85

Two-year starter with sure and consistent hands. A blue collar  competitor who is a short area target. Can dig out a low ball or  an off target throw. Will sit down in a void area and open his  chest up to the quarterback. His production fell off in 2010  because of inconsistency at the quarterback position. Has fringe  speed for position. Must do everything right to get open. A  quicker than fast tight end who can read coverages. Disciplined  route runner. A developmental player with draftable qualities.
