Lucas Nix, OG, Pittsburgh – 6052 317 5.36 Three-year starter who is aggressive and physical in his play. Has heavy legs and doesn’t always bring his feet with him which causes him to overextend and go to the ground. Punches with authority. Will lock on to the down defensive tackle or linebacker in a base block and try to bury them in the pile. Head is always on a swivel looking for someone to hit. Generally plays with a good base but will lean too far forward at times. Comes off low with a flat back on base run plays. Physical on down and combo blocks. Can manhandle and maul a smaller defensive gap tackle. Will play high and miss target on short or long pulls. Coaches will like his tough and physical demeanor where he takes no prisoners. However, he is not a good foot athlete and struggles to regain his body control and balance. Missed four games in 2011 with a right knee injury. Also has some red flags that need to be addressed. Has experience at both guard and tackle. OSR:22/ 48. Fifth/sixth round. (A-33 1/2, H-9 3/4, BP-DNP, 10-1.76).
Chaz Powell, DC, Penn State – 6003 203 4.49 Started 18 games at corner and 9 games at wide receiver. Has played both sides of the ball for the Nittany Lions. Played safety as a red-shirt in 2007, then moved to wide receiver in 2008 and 2009. In the spring of 2010 he was moved to corner and at the start of the 2010 season he was moved back to wide receiver. At mid-season 2010 he was moved back to corner. A big and fast athlete with good hands. Very good instincts and playing awareness. Makes mental adjustments on the fly. Can make up ground with good recovery speed. Stays on his feet. Can play off the blockers in open field and make a tackle. Will extend for a ball like a receiver. Plays with confidence. Ascending skills that need pro physical development. Smart on and off the field. Will contribute on special teams’ coverage and as a kickoff return specialist. He averaged 27.1 yards on 27 returns in 2011. 2011 stats: 41 tackles, 2.5 TFL, 2 INTs. 6 PBU. BTR:left 4.76, right 4.72. OSR:12/35. Sixth/ seventh round. (A-30 1/8, H-9 3/8, VJ-33, SS-4.16).
