Two-year starter who was red-shirted in 2008. Plays in a pro style offense. It all starts with his good base and knee bend in pass protection and as a run blocker. In pass pro he has the ability to quick set with body quickness, change of direction, and can redirect with natural body control. Demonstrates attitude and aggression to engage initial contact with base, balance, and knee bend. Stays square with the ability to shadow rusher with quick reactions. He has easy light feet and finish ability. As a run blocker Kalil has the ability to quick position a defender with base leverage to run his feet on contact. Will sustain and finish with functional play strength and balance. Good mobility to block on the move, block downfield, and dominate as a puller and trap tackle. Can adjust and control his body, zeroing in on a moving target and finish. Can adjust and sustain in space downfield. On cut off blocks he has very good lateral agility and quickness to prevent and secure defenders away from the play or versus a slant move. Sets the edge in the run game. Solid lower body, flexibility, and power. Hard to knock off his feet. He possesses the size, strength, balance, base, punch, shock, and the ability to drop his weight and anchor versus power. Has the lateral range to block the edge, a major requirement for a left tackle. He possesses a good use of hands with quickness, stab, punch, placement, and extension to control opponent. Has an explosive 6-inch punch. He used his height and reach to block four field goal attempts in 2011. Will get bored at times and get beat inside or doesn’t break on a thrown ball.
