Darrelle Revis to the Jets

What?

CB Darrelle Revis SIGNED by New York Jets

Why?

Even though Head Coach and defensive mastermind Rex Ryan is coaching for division rival Buffalo, Revis Island has returned to where he started.  Revis has his ring now and brings a different approach to the new regime of Jets football.  Despite the regime change, the defense is still a main focus for New York.  Todd Bowles is as aggressive as it comes in terms of blitzing the quarterback and relying on the coverage ability of cornerbacks.  Patrick Peterson was a huge part of the Cardinals defense while Bowles was there, and Revis will be in that situation.  Revis can shut down any receiver in the NFL on a weekly basis.  On a defense that lacked talent at the position in 2014 in a big way, this could be a season changing move.

What’s next?

Revis turns 30 prior to the season.  While he still has a few years of high quality play left, it would be in the Jets best interest to continue to add to the CB group.  Relying on rookies wouldn’t be the smartest move as it is such a difficult position to transition to the NFL from college.  More resources need to be spent here and the hope will be Dee Milliner is ready to step up, the third year corner that was supposed to replace Revis in 2013.
