What?

RB Shane Vereen SIGNED by New York Giants

Why?

The Giants have two bruisers that excel at between the tackle running in Andre Williams and Rashad Jennings.  Neither, however, are as productive in space and catching the ball.  Manning has always liked throwing to running backs and there was a definite need there.  Vereen runs wide receiver caliber routes and is a reliable hands catcher.  He caught 99 passes over the past two years, which is among the NFL’s leaders for the position.

What’s Next?

With three backs in place and a couple more veterans fighting for a fourth spot on the preseason depth chart, NYG can cross RB off the draft list when it comes to their first 4-5 picks.  Tom Coughlin has always been hesitant to trust unproven youngsters in the backfield.  He places a lot of value on ball security, pass protection, and the ability to catch the ball.  Vereen brings all three to the table and will be a highly used asset to this improving offense.
