Pernell McPhee Signs with Chicago

What?

DE Pernell McPhee SIGNED by Chicago

Why?

The Bears defense was among the league’s worst in 2014 against the run and pass.  The root of the problem resided up front, where the lack of presence and difference makers made them an easy team to drive against.  What kind of scheme Chicago runs is yet to be figured out but knowing the history of John Fox and Vic Fangio, they will place a lot of value on versatility up front so they can alter their fronts.  McPhee was arguably the highest graded defensive linemen in the free agent class that plays inside and outside.  He’ll be able to adjust to any role, any scheme.

 What’s Next?

The Bears will continue to stockpile established talent to their defense that fits the versatility idea.  They will need to add a bigger presence inside and a more explosive outside edge rusher in time, but they may wait until the draft for those players.
